About the Artist:

Jasmine Su Juanyan Gardner (b.1997), is a Manchester-based artist whose work primarily focuses on binding traditional Chinese art forms with contemporary social issues predominantly through painting and paper cutting. By drawing her lived experience as an adoptee from the age of 8 months old, themes deriving from growing up in a white family, town and social circle are channelled through Chinese mythology, colour and material as a method to connect to her heritage. By pairing universally recognisable forms, imagery whilst primarily using painting and paper cutting, Jasmine hopes to open a dialogue about difficult conversations one has experienced as someone from the Global Majority in Britain.
Jasmine studied at Manchester School of Art and has obtained a BA in Fine Art and Art History and a MA by Research postgraduate degree. Notable exhibitions and achievements include commissioned site specific installations with esea contemporary (2024) and the Portico Library (2025), Manchester, a solo exhibition at Black Redstart Gallery (2025), Manchester, exhibiting artist at Mall Galleries with Swanfall, London (2025) and being shortlisted for the Young Masters Art Prize (2022).
Available for Workshops and Talks:
I am an experienced painting teacher with Prime Pass since February 2023 and workshop facilitator. I am keen to teach sessions which reference traditional Chinese artforms whilst encouraging one's individual artistic response.
If you are interested in my work, my story or my thesis, I am more than happy to open a dialogue, whether it be part of an exhibition, panel or informal talk, feel free to get in contact!
